This assignment involved my first trip ever inside a helicopter, both grounded and in the air. Sparrow Hospital in Lansing recently signed a contract with Air Methods Corp. to have pilots, an aircraft, a mechanic and flight paramedics and nurses based from the hospital on Michigan Avenue. I drove to the hospital at 8:30 a.m. and patiently waited my turn to board the aircraft and take a tour throughout the sky above Lansing.
When filming this video I made sure to acquire shots of the aircraft as it took off and landed, as well as interviews with those responsible for the agreement with Air Methods Corp. Combining those shots with what I was able to film inside the unsteady helicopter worked to create a video in which the viewer is taken for a virtual ride from takeoff to landing. Aside from a certain unsteadiness of the shots taken inside the helicopter (which was unavoidable considering the helicopter was constantly moving, resulting in few zoomed shots) I think the video turned out well.
